The Talk of the Town Contest!

Ribbon being cut. Balloons launching into the air.

For over 75 years, Better Hearing & Speech Month (BHSM) has served to make people aware of the importance of hearing health and the impact of hearing and speech disorders on people's lives. To honor and support that commitment, Second Sense Hearing Solutions is kicking off their summer contest in May to raise awareness, give away prizes, and help make hearing loss The Talk of the Town!

"More than fifteen million Americans strive daily to surmount the isolation that hearing impairment so often brings. Over ten million Americans endeavor to communicate despite speech disorders. We can help people with communicative disorders fulfill their potential by identifying and removing the man-made obstacles that limit their educational and occupational opportunities. Our efforts will enrich not only their lives, but our own."
Ronald Reagan, 1986 (Today an estimated 36 million people in the United States have hearing loss.)

Often people are unaware of or misunderstand the dramatic impact hearing loss can have on a person's quality of life. Not only have studies shown that untreated hearing loss can atrophy parts of the brain leading to a greater likelihood of Alzheimer’s and dementia, but it also creates huge stresses on relationships, individual freedoms, and inhibits the essential human need to communicate.

Advocates on behalf of people with speech, hearing and language problems The American-Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) --a community of audiologists, speech-language pathologists, and speech, language, and hearing scientists, has chosen, Connecting People Through Communication as the slogan for the 2012 BHSM. To honor that theme and raise awareness, Second Sense Hearing Solutions' summer contest is designed with communication in mind. Tell us your story and let's make hearing loss The Talk of the Town!

Hearing loss is called the silent disability, because the condition is invisible and easy to deny. It often takes a big event or a caring person to motivate someone with hearing loss to seek help. Now is your chance to speak up about hearing loss. People Hearing Better and Second Sense Hearing Solutions wants to know who or what inspired you!

Share your story in one of the three chosen themes and you could win! Let us know:
